The selection process for the Metro DC Dance Awards has three steps:
Step 1
Public Nomination
Nominations are accepted from the public between June 1, 2007 and May 31, 2008 for awards to be presented in September 2008. Anyone who has seen a performance is invited to nominate it for an award.

Nominations are accepted throughout the year and must be postmarked by May 31, 2008 to qualify for the 2008 awards.
Step 2
Ballot
Nominations are checked for eligibility, compiled into a ballot, and is distributed to practicing dance artists. The artist list was originally compiled by Dance/USA as part of its mapping of the DC dance community and also includes past finalists for the MDCDA who are still living in the region.
We invite practicing dance artists to join our Ballot List by clicking here. Each artist may vote for up to five nominees in each category, with the exception of the Alan M. Kriegsman Award. This award is determined by ballot vote, and each artist may vote for one nominee. Artists are asked to vote for performances which they have seen.
The top three to five nominees in each category become the finalists for the season’s awards.
Step 3
Selection Committee Vote
Each member of the selection committee has the opportunity to add one artist in one category to the list of finalists. This artist must have been a nominee on the original ballot.
Finalists are contacted and asked to provide biographical information and three copies of a videotape of the nominated performance. Members of the selection committee, who are encouraged to attend performances by local artists throughout the season, view videotapes of any finalist performances they have not seen in person. The committee votes during the annual voting meeting held in early September. Winners will be kept confidential until the awards ceremony in late September. Committee members do not vote in categories in which they have a personal or professional relationship with a finalist.
